An Evolving Lexicon of Terms: a residency by Mark Jeffery and Judd Morrissey.
Friday October 22nd – Monday November 1st 2010

The curators are pleased to announce a residency by Chicago-based writing and performance duo Mark Jeffery and Judd Morrissey, who will write in response to their current joint project, The Precession, a poetic and performance-based investigation of labor, monumentality and the night sky. The residency is the second collaborative project commissioned for the site. In March 2010 textoftheday hosted a residency from artists Zsuzsa Mitro and Chris Funkhouser, who posted twenty-one days of collaborative poetics.

This second collaborative residency explores the interface between writing and imaging, as the artists contribute found and generated images made through a process of writing and manipulating digital material. During the residency the artists will write each day in response to an evolving lexicon of terms ultimately designated for The Precession, initially posting to their Twitter account, theprecession, and then processing their writing computationally and visualizing it for textoftheday.

Judd Morrissey and Mark Jeffery are collaborating artists whose work draws from and combines digital literary and performance practices. For information about their recent work see their recent blog on Studio Chicago: http://studiochicago.blogspot.com/2010/07/studio-is-anywhere.html.

The Precession is being developed as a 10-screen installation for the 80 foot digital facade of the Hyde Park Art Center where the artists are now in-residence. The exhibition will launch in December followed by performances in March 2011. A single-screen work-in-progress can be viewed at: http://theprecession.org.
